The Nacogdoches High School Class of 1968 celebrated the 40th Anniversary of our graduation with a gathering at Harlon's Barbeque on Friday, October 3, 2008. The function allowed everyone to get re-aquainted during an evening of festive song, dance and food. Then it was an early rise on Saturday morning for those playing golf at the PWCC; while others lingered awaiting a tour of our old high school building. The Reunion was held on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at the Piney Woods Country Club from 6 PM - 12 Midnight. The night was kicked off with continued socializing and greeting of old friends. Our Master of Ceremonies for the evening, Joy Deason Bailey, took the microphone to introduce Archie Haney for an invocation and special slide presentation in Honor of Our Lost Classmates. Our beloved classmate, Ronnie Raines, honored us with singing our class song, "The Impossible Dream". The GUV'NORS from the NHS Class of 1967 provided musical entertainment for the evening. During the band breaks we were marveled by the talents of Ben Covin, Bill Stewart, Jeff Hale, Dickey Johnson and Gray Gregson as they performed again as the Styx-N-Stones. Ronnie, Kathy Baker McGough, Linda Mills Johannson, and Betty Lynne Dorman contributed to the celebration throughout the evening, continuing to amaze and grace us with their talent. Although the program did not go quite as planned, we conducted a profitable silent auction, had unlimited fun and spent an entire weekend visiting with friends, remembering the "old days" and yearning for our next class gathering. For those who were unable to attend, you were missed; for those in attendance, memories were refreshed and new ones formulated as we prepared to return to the norm of our everyday lifes. It was without a doubt an event that surpassed expectation and established the benchmark for future events. |
